Hi! And Welcome to Pegret’s Art Lab, a place for creative experiments, exploration, innovation and deep dives into paintings and other kinds of art. I have been described as a conjurer of happiness, of fun, of excitement, ideas and many things creative.

Each time I play in this space, I will take one of my art pieces and talk about it.  Why did I  make it? What did I learn from making it? How and where does it fit into my art “journey? How does it make me feel?  What was my process? What is the back story?

So let’s start with the little sketch of Pegret’s Art Lab:

My studio has always been named for my beloved three Havanese dogs, Chico, Azul and Posey..Black Dog Studio.  When I lost all three last year from old age I had neither dogs nor black ones.  I was without animal energy in my life and I was miserable.  Enter Olive, a year old black and white Havie, pre owned and needing to be rehomed.  I was so thrilled to have her. Then 6 months later her mom came to live with us. She was retired from having puppies and I was so happy that the girls could be reunited. Olive and Marshmallow are besties, share a bed, play all day and are my lab assistants. Marshy is the color of a slightly toasted marshmallow, that lovely golden reddish color and cream…so no black dogs.  It was time for a new name for the studio.

The image  above reflects some of the tools I use in my art practice…brushes, a palette, paint colors.  The magic comes in mixing new colors, using unusual tools for markmaking, being able to create new and wonderful colors. I have fresh flowers in the lab daily that I can draw, sketch, paint, use as color inspiration and that just smell nice. Every Wednesday a new bouquet arrives.  I am blessed!

I have my pals from The Creative’s Workshop to thank for the new name of the studio. They are such fun to play with, incredibly supportive, brilliant in working on their own projects. And when Kevin Casey made a wonderful argument for Pegret’s Art Lab, it just felt right. Thanks my dear sweet friends!

Next post I will talk about Marie, our resident T-Rex. Until then, have a week filled with kindness, creativity, inspiration and heart!
